Kaya Izakaya X Mr RYU in Prahran
Having tasted the fine dishes of Mr RYU in the past we were excited to visit the collaboration between Kaya Izakaya x Mr RYU in Chapel St Prahran. We were invited along to experience some of the signature dishes, and we were highly impressed. Walk into a modern restaurant in the heart of Prahran and be prepared for bold flavours and clean dining. When you leave you feel satisfied without feeling "stodgy" or bloated. Service here is impeccable.
Kudos to experienced chefs Kazuma Yamamoto from Kaya Izakaya and Seong Yeop Ryu from Mr RYU, who both bring a modern take to Japanese cooking, while respecting flavours of the Japanese tradition.
Edamame with Murray river pink salt and signature spicy sauce was the perfect starter. The spicy sauce is a must order and elevates this dish.
Prawn nori taco with tobiko, saltbush, spicy thousand island is a vibrant dish that is full of flavour and perfect texture with crunch and hit of seafood. A must order signature. The idea of a Japanese taco is a great concept in an izakaya setting.
Coconut kingfish sashimi with red namjim, jalapeno, coriander once again delivers on seafood flavour, with some spice. The spice is not overpowering and this was a highly enjoyable dish.
