Tallboy and Moose New Brewpub in Preston
Tallboy and Moose is a new brewpub in Preston, quenching the thirst of Melbournians looking to tap into fresh beer direct from the brewhouse. The World Loves Melbourne was invited along to the launch party.
Tallboy and Moose is living the craft beer dream. When you look to craft beer venues you want to see a good number of craft beers on tap. And Tallboy and Moose delivers. There are eight craft beers on tap, 1 litre XL tallboy cans for take-away filled in-front of your eyes and BYO food flexibility with heaps of local options. What more could you ask for?
With their on-site brewery now up and running, Tallboy and Moose launched their first three beers brewed in-house. The beers include a new single-hop pale ale showing-off US hop Bitter Gold, an American style IPA, and an authentic London ESB (extra special bitter), the ESB being a specialty of English head brewer and co-founder Dan “Tallboy” Hall. Also in the tap line-up are locally sourced guest beers and a cider. We love the variety.
NOW OPEN 5 DAYS
After a soft-launch period of being open on Fridays and Saturdays only, Tallboy and Moose is now open 5 days a week from Wednesday to Sunday. The new schedule makes room for a full-spectrum of offerings…brewery tours, events, R&D experimental releases, beer blending sessions, a range of hand selected wines and neighbourhood foods specials. A beer garden out the front opened just in time for an arvo pint in the summer sun.

In a massive space great for groups large and small, Tallboy and Moose comprises several seating options. From beer-hall style benches to date-night café tables and lounge areas in a comfortable open-plan warehouse, it’s easy to settle into the industrial chic vibe of the space. “We wanted to bring the best of both worlds,” says head–brewer and co-founder Dan Hall. “We’ve got the freshest beer possible, in an old industrial building, but we’ve brought in a lot of wood to cozy the space up. We want Tallboy and Moose to feel like a second living room for our locals.”
The main feature of the 490 square-metre space is the central 12-metre bar containing a significant section of reclaimed Victorian hardwood where drinkers can pull up a stool and sink into a tasting paddle.
WHO ARE TALLBOY AND MOOSE, EXACTLY?
Located near the corner of High Street and Raglan Street, Tallboy and Moose is the brainchild of Dan (who’s really tall) and Steve (who’s really Canadian) – two beer-crazy mates who have been brewing, selling and drinking craft beer in and around Melbourne for quite a few years now. Dan has brewed at several of Melbourne’s local breweries (Hawkers, Brewcult, Moondog and guest stints for others) while Steve has been working in sales and marketing for several local and international craft brands and breweries. With their bar and brewery underway, the boys will be whipping up top-drawer beers at their new home base in Melbourne’s North.
