Myer Spring Fashion Lunch Heralds Spring Racing at Flemington

Spring is on us and fashion is in the air; as well as the imminent spring racing carnival! More than 700 guests in glamorous racewear descended upon Flemington’s Atrium to celebrate the new season of spring racing at the annual Myer Spring Fashion LunchThe Face of Myer, Jennifer Hawkins, graced the Flemington catwalk for the first time showcasing the latest Myer spring racewear trends.

Hawkins was joined on the catwalk by Myer Men’s Spring 16 Ambassador and Australian Olympic swimmer Cameron McEvoy, who has recently returned from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

The parade featured leading Australian designers including Acler, Alex PerryAsilioby johnny and Yeojin Bae, with international designers including Oscar de la Renta, Peter Pilotto and Roland Mouret also on parade.

Hosted by Channel 7’s Edwina Bartholomew and 7 Sport host and horse racing expert Jason Richardson, the sold-out event was opened with a performance by ARIA award winning singer and multi-platinum artist Anthony Callea, who had guests dancing in their seats.

Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador Stephanie Smith debuted in her official role. Richardson interviewed the Melbourne ‘It-Girl’ on-stage to provide some style-tips for the ladies ahead of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington.

The event also celebrated 22 years of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Pin & Win program, with the VRC announcing a second year in partnership with the Starlight Children’s Foundation. In 2015, the sale of the Emirates Melbourne Cup lapel pins raised more than $350,000 for Starlight, helping to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families.

The two-course luncheon by Flemington’s own Peter Rowland featured an exquisite chocolate and cherry cheesecake designed by Darren Purchese, the man behind Melbourne’s renowned Sweet Studio, Burch & Purchese

The event signals just two days until Flemington’s first Group 1 raceday for the season, Sofitel Girls’ Day Out on Saturday 10 September.
