Yarra Valley is not just about wineries, as the Yarra Valley Dairy proves. Add the Yarra Valley Dairy to your winery tour (or vice versa). On your way to Yarra Glen diverge along the dirt road to this little oasis.

Walk up the slope from the car park and to your surprise enter a 100 year old original milking shed! But then you gaze out of the window to spectacular views! You also notice all the gourmet treats for sale (we always buy up here). And the gifts and home wares that are available.

The highlight is to sit out the back of the shed like structure and enjoy some premium cheeses with a cheese tasting plate. “We are makers of fine quality handmade cheeses” says the website. Staff like talking about the cheese (so do we). The tasting plates come with various combinations and sides. Not to forget the local breads and great coffee.

We love the cheese tasting plates – including our kids who love premium cheese (particularly goats cheese). All the cheeses are made on site (not in the café but elsewhere next door in the cheese factory). Cows are duly milked twice daily. This is a genuine dairy! Great way to spend an afternoon! A gourmet lovers dream destination…
