Great café at the Paris end of Bourke St, Wallis and Ed is a super modern spacious café which serves great food and coffee. The name Wallis and Ed is no doubt a reference to royalty Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII – but could also double as a reference to certain AFL identities?
This is a great place to meet with people and enjoy great food and ambience for breakfast, lunch and dinner! There is a great dining room and a bar. It used to be the space taken up by the Hard Rock Café. I am advised there is some association with the Windsor Hotel next door (hence the somewhat cheeky name).
Love the vibe with various seating areas and the potential to sit by the window and watch the world go by. Love the Bentwood chairs and the sense of sophistication. After all, Wallis and Simpson did ooze sophistication in the 1930s!
I love the long mirror along the wall with the menu stylishly written across it. Daily specials look tantalising! Love the sweeping hardwood timber floors and the cool uber colours and light fittings. I’d imagine this place would have a great ambience at night!
Love the great breakfast options ranging from house baked muesli and Dench fruit toast to tasty hot breakfast offerings. A popular choice is W&E Breakfast featuring Breakfast Scotch egg, crispy Istra bacon, roast toma with Dench sourdough toast & preserves! Delish!
Wallis and Ed offers excellent lunch offerings such as Cumin spiced lamb rack, Drunken Chicken, Duck breast l’orange and steak. Or even come here for Hotel Windsor teas with delightful pastries.
Staff are eager to please and the coffee is great with Five Sense coffee. I’m predicting great things for this impressive establishment at the top of Bourke!
