Tien Dat is a superb Vietnamese and Asian restaurant in Box Hill that delivers on all fronts! The restaurant itself has a great ambience and leans towards fine dining rather than a cheap eat. It’s a well established restaurant in Box Hill (being the first Vietnamese restaurant on the Carrington Rd strip) and has a strong North Vietnam influence.
This place is so good that I’ve been known to get off the train at Box Hill and run up and through Box Hill Centro and out to Tien Dat on Carrington Rd to grab takeaway - then run back down to the station and catch the next train home. It can be a mere 15 min interlude if you time it right.
I’ve loved the experience of many Vietnamese restaurants in the city. Some of them are more traditional than others. Some of them are deconstructed versions of Vietnamese cuisine. But if you go to Hanoi or the back blocks of Vietnam the food is so fresh and creative! The food at Tien Dat shouts fresh and flavoursome! Love flavours of Lemongrass, basil, coriander, lettuce crunch, chillis, mint and tender meat…
These guys do great Asian noodle dishes. I love the Beef and chilli noodles which I’ve had several times. Generous portion and awesome flavour profile. The beef is amazingly flavoursome and tender, with the right amount of chilli in the dish. Love dry versions of noodle dishes. Also popular is Singapore Noodles and Mee Goreng Noodles.
Also love the hand rolls! The duck hand rolls are amazing! Almost a meal in themselves! As are the pork and prawn hand rolls! Whatever you do – order the hand rolls! Fresh with crunch!
Also popular for Hanoi spring rolls, beef Pho, Vietnamese Crepe, spicy salted peppered squid, Asian salads, and curry.
Staff here are charming and accommodating. The restaurant has three dining areas – upstairs, downstairs and an outdoor area. Tien Dat is slightly more expensive than other Vietnamese restaurants I’ve been to butthe quality is superb! Love it!
