Great find on Swanston Street, Sahara is almost hidden away like a mysterious oasis in the desert! I love a place that has something a little different and the personal touch. Sahara is full of rustic charm in terms of its menu, service and ambience.

Walk up the stairs and enter this inviting restaurant with exposed brick walls and bold colours, cool African lamps, and wonderful North African hangings and furniture. This is a great place to write your novel. In fact try to secure a table with large windows open and outlook on to bustling Swanston Street!

For the lunch time crowd the value is unbeatable. Gourmet steak and chips for only $10 – in fact several enticing $10 specials. Steak portion is big enough for lunch, with superb chips and salad and a little bowl of their fine ketchup.

I noticed some diners opted for the lamb tagine, which wasn’t on the menu – but I was told was always available. It looked spectacular – mental note to try it next time!

Service is really personable and friendly! No trouble moving to the window table when it became available and having all my things moved there.
