Tres bon! Roule Galette is an awesome French restaurant in cool Scott Alley bringing French charm, awesome galettes (savoury) and crepes (sweet). The ambience is sensational as this small café pays homage to France with French speaking hosts and quirky French related objects around the room. The music playing is often French and the lady is known to sing along to the odd song line.

The food here is fantastic and hits the spot! Not knowing what to order in such an establishment I asked the French host for advice. I was told that Aussies normally order savoury breakfast but in France they usually want something sweet! I decided to go French not Aussie! So I ordered the Home Made Caramel and Salted Butter Crepe! Great decision! The guys cook the crepes in a small kitchen area by the window. You can see some steam rising as they cook. Very quickly I was handed my crepe – it looked great with caramel sauce drizzled all over it!

A highlight was when the French dude said “Bon appetite!” on serving me my crepe. So cool!

The home made caramel was an absolute winner – the caramel had a richness and depth way more complex than say a caramel sauce from the supermarket. I loved it! As the crepe was folded over it was enough for breakfast!

The menu options are excellent. The galettes looked tempting including the Aussie with egg, bacon and baked beans.  Or the Complete with egg, ham, shredded cheese and butter – a Brittany tradition! The Chevre with goat cheese looked interesting – I wasn’t sure how you can fill a galette with goat cheese and charge only $9.50?

The crepe options can also become more diverse with options of Nutella, strawberries, banana etc.

The coffee here was also excellent!

I also noticed some Henry of Harcourt ciders in the fridge.

This is a great French experience! Especially as the hosts speak French all the time! Having learned French at school I tried to engage them in French as I left. I bet they get that all the time! Vive la France! Vive the amazing Roule Galette!
