The World Loves Melbourne New Post

Celebrating Melbourne one of the greatest food, fashion and cultural cities in the world.

Maedaya - Fun Japanese Pub!

Maedaya is a classy fun Japanese restaurant on Bridge Rd Richmond. Ever popular it’s about the experience not just the food. A number of Melbourne restaurants offer a formal dining experience, but if you feel like a fun night with a group where you can let it all hang out and make a bit of noise and share some meals, come to Maedaya! Laugh! Cry! Tell your stories loudly! The place is pumping with noise and activity. Surely one of best Japanese eateries in Melbourne. Authenticity plus – it’s like you're in Japan (been there twice). Technically it’s a Japanese pub.

We came here to celebrate with friends and we ordered a large selection of meals to share. I loved how our whole group could be at the one large table – even had room for a pram. You could say it was like a Japanese tapas experience. A highlight was the pan fried sliced pork belly. Perfectly cooked pork with crispy skin on the outside and succulent and tender meat inside. Love the sets. We loved the Beef Tataki which was like a beef sashimi. Another highlight was the crab. Taste this delacacy and you wish there was more – a hard one to share. The ox tongue (yes ox tongue) is something you hardly ever see on a menu. It also was succulent and not tough. The pancake was a surprise sensation. And the charcoal grill skewers were fantastic and a popular menu choice.

My kids loved the skewers and we ordered them all night – which was great – until the bill came. Go upstairs and cook yourself and get infused with smoke. Or do what we did and order downstairs where they meals are cooked and brought to your table. Reasonable prices! Maedaya is a great Japanese dining experience especially for a group.
